S.J.Res.18 CRA: CFPB Overdraft Fee Rule

119th Congress
Money in Politics & FinanceCampaign finance, lobbying, corporate influence over lawmaking, and how Congress regulates banks, Wall Street, crypto, and consumer financial protections.
View on Congress.gov

Repeals a 2024 CFPB rule that required banks and credit unions with more than $10 billion in assets to cap overdraft fees at $5, limit them to what overdraft actually costs the bank, or treat overdraft as a loan with standard credit disclosures. Because the repeal passed under the Congressional Review Act, the CFPB cannot issue a substantially similar rule without new authority from Congress.
