About This Data
Data Source
All speech data comes from the Congressional Record via the GovInfo API. Each speech entry links directly to its source record on GovInfo.
AI Classification
Claude (AI) generates one-sentence summaries and classifies speeches into topic categories. Tags are not exhaustive; a speech may cover topics the AI did not tag.
Keyword Selection
688 keywords across 35 issue areas are tracked using exact-match scanning of full speech text. Keywords were editorially curated by YourRepRecord to capture framing differences on key policy issues.
Per 10K Words Normalization
Normalizes for speech volume. A member who gave 100 speeches will naturally have more keyword mentions than one who gave 5. The per-10,000-words rate enables fair comparison across members.
What This Shows
How often members use specific words relative to their peers. Keyword frequency surfaces language and framing patterns across the full chamber.
What This Does NOT Show
Frequency does not equal position. A member may use a word while arguing for or against the concept. Click the GovInfo link on any speech to read the full text in context.
Update Frequency
Floor speeches are retrieved periodically from the GovInfo Congressional Record. Data reflects speeches available at the time of the last update.
